Biography

Richard Lee is an actor, arts administrator, fight director and sound designer. Although he didn't choose a career in the later few, his love of all things based in movement and sound and being bossy have led him on many an interesting journey. Richard graduated with a BFA from York University's Theatre Program. Upon graduating, the university made him stay an extra semester, not because he didn't have enough credits to graduate, but because he lacked the "appropriate" 1/2 credit to do so. Richard has worked extensively in both film and theatre since his graduation. In his career he's had the joy of play many interesting roles, from Bruce Lee (Little Dragon - K'now/Theatre Passe Muraille) ; to the dark world of Rick Wong (Banana Boys - fu-GEN Theatre Company), both of which he has received Dora nominations for. You may also have seen him order a turkey sandwich at York University once or twice (Prince and Me - Paramount Pictures).

Beyond the performing arts Richard has spent the last 10 years living and training as a Martial Artist. Over this time he has trained in many varying styles. From Aikido to Banethi, Richard always marvels at how many unique forms of combat there are and how each person's individual martial journey is their own intimate voyage. Because of this, he did a study of martial arts and its application to theatre with the assistance of the Ontario Arts Councils' Chalmers Professional Development Grant. Richard is also the General Manager of fu-GEN Asian-Canadian Theatre Company. A company dedicated to the development of professional Asian Canadian theatre artists. Richard has been the General Manager for fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company since its inception in 2002.

While his education experience was primarily as a performer,
his experiences with accounting and business management
have assisted in his time as fu-GEN's General Manager. He currently resides in Toronto with his wife Nina Lee Aquino and daughter Eponine.
